Designer furniture emphasizes the subtle taste and individuality of the owner. And, of course, it requires a special approach. First of all, this concerns proper care and cleaning from contamination.
The peculiarity is that premium interior items are made from several materials at once, each of which requires its own approach. To keep your furniture beautiful and retain its original appearance for as long as possible, use our tips.
Recommendations for upholstered furniture
While there are rules for cleaning every material and every stain, there are also general guidelines.
As for upholstered furniture, the basic rules are as follows:
- upholstery can only be cleaned if washing is not allowed in the care instructions;
- the surface should be cleaned with a soft brush; for textured surfaces, it is preferable to use a vacuum cleaner with a special attachment;
- the surface cannot be rubbed;
- You can only use a vacuum cleaner if there is obvious dirt, as it can suck up not only dust, but also small fluff, which will affect the quality of the upholstery;
- You should also not hit the coating, as this may cause deformation of the product;
- Washing vacuum cleaners are prohibited, as they will soak not only the fabric, but also the layers that are located under it. It will not be possible to completely dry the furniture, which subsequently leads to the appearance of mold and an unpleasant odor;
- Do not use rough cleaning methods, as this can damage the fabric and change its appearance.
In some cases, wet cleaning is indicated, but it is carried out according to regulations:
- the method cannot be used for everyday care, but only in exceptional situations and locally;
- It is not recommended to wash the upholstery, as this may cause its deformation and premature wear;
- Before wet treatment, you must first carry out a dry treatment so as not to rub dust into the surface;
- Only fresh stains can be treated, since you cannot rub the upholstery, this will cause contamination to penetrate into the structure of the fabric;
- the stain is removed by moving in a circle towards the center;
- household cleaning products are prohibited;
- a special composition is used for each type of fabric; before use, it must be tested on a small area in an inconspicuous place;
- It is important to dry the furniture well, creating the necessary conditions for this (ventilation, heating, ventilation or hair dryer).
Features of caring for materials
Designer furniture can be not only soft. It is made from different materials. Each of them requires a specific approach.
Metal designer products are wiped with a soft cloth dampened with alcohol - chrome and gold plated, epoxy coated surfaces are treated in this way. After treatment, you need to wipe them with a dry cloth. Nickel-plated products cannot be wiped with alcohol; they are wiped with plain water. To work with aluminum elements, alcohol is diluted with water. The use of abrasives is prohibited.
Wood care depends on the finishing material. This can be a natural surface coated with varnish or paint. Therefore, you will have to focus on these materials. If there are no other recommendations, you can use a soap solution. And if the surface needs to be disinfected, you can mix water and alcohol.
Designer products made from natural stone are distinguished by their magnificent appearance and luxurious details. This natural material has a unique texture, so everything made from it has its own character and personality. Marble does not tolerate moisture well, so if liquid gets on it, it must be removed immediately. If the surface needs to be cleaned, use a soft cloth and special soap.
Glass products do not require complex care. The main rule is not to use abrasives so as not to scratch the surface. When wiping, you need to take a special soft cloth for polishing glass and mirrors.
Leather coverings stretch, crack, and scratch. Therefore, you need to carefully care for them. How exactly to do this is determined by what animal the leather comes from and how it was processed. Dust should be wiped with a dry cloth, not a brush. It is important to protect the material from sunlight, as this can cause it to fade. To prevent the skin from stretching, you need to regularly lubricate it with cream. If it gets dirty, you can rub the surface with soapy water, after which you need to wipe dry. Alcohol cannot be used. There are also products that are intended for the skin; when purchasing, you need to pay attention to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Fabric surfaces are treated depending on the type of upholstery used. It's difficult to work with velvet. It stretches, wrinkles, deforms, and changes color if the pile is directed incorrectly. Linen and surfaces made of cotton fabrics are strongly stretched. We described the basic rules of care above. The main thing is to try not to wet the products in order to preserve their life as long as possible.
If the product can be washed, then you need to carefully remove the covers. If they have Velcro or fasteners, they should not touch the front surface of the fabric.
To extend the life of the filling in pillows, you need to shake them periodically and remember to change their position.
The interior of a house or apartment is determined by the appearance of the furnishings. If you buy designer Art Deco furniture from Garda Decor, it is important to keep it looking presentable for as long as possible. Neglect can ruin the impression of any room.
