According to psychologists, the atmosphere surrounding a child plays an important role in his development and the formation of aesthetic taste. This is especially true for girls who have a keen sense of beauty. Therefore, when developing the design of a children's room for a girl, you need to think through every detail: color scheme, proper lighting, distribution of space into functional zones. The interior of a bedroom intended for a daughter should be beautiful, cozy, and functional. In order for the result to please both the parents and the child, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the designers’ recommendations and the rules for decorating the room in which the girl will live.

Zoning a children's room for a girl

It is recommended to start arranging a nursery by dividing the room into three main zones: study, play, and sleeping areas. Depending on the size of the nursery, you can use different methods: install a closet or shelving unit, hang curtains, or equip a mobile partition. If the children's room is very small, it is enough to limit yourself to a symbolic division of sectors using color or several lighting sources.

In the process of zoning a nursery, it is worth considering a few tips:

  • It is better to place the study area by the window. The place in which the girl will do her homework and do creative work should be well lit. A special role is played by natural light, which cannot be replaced by the most modern lighting system.

  • For the sleeping area, it is advisable to set aside the most secluded corner of the children's room. The bed should not be located on the aisle - such a location may interfere with the child’s proper sleep.

  • If there are two girls in a family, a good solution would be to install a modular system consisting of several blocks in the children's room. Such a system may include a bunk bed, built-in wardrobes, pull-out shelves - everything you need for study and night rest. In the other half of the children's room it will be possible to arrange a play area.

  • Parents of a young athlete should take care of arranging a sports corner. Today, compact wall bars and entire sports complexes are available for sale, taking up minimal space in the nursery.

Open shelving with identical shelves in bright, cheerful shades is great for zoning a child’s room. The good thing about this type of furniture is that it can be used on both sides. In spacious children's rooms, functional areas are sometimes separated by stationary partitions - structures that are attached to the ceiling and floor. If the area of the girl’s room does not allow installing a fixed partition in the nursery, a portable screen decorated with cute appliqués will help to separate the personal space.

How to organize lighting in a nursery

When decorating the interior of a children's room for a girl, you need to think about high-quality lighting. It is important to find a middle ground here: the children's room should not be dark, but too bright light will harm vision.

Multi-level lighting is best suited for children's rooms. It needs to be created based on the layout and number of functional areas. For example, you might consider this option:

  • Overhead lighting for the nursery - spotlights or a chandelier with soft diffused light.

  • In the children's recreation area there is a night light or a cozy floor lamp with a textile lampshade. They should be located in such a way that when going to bed, the child can easily reach the switch.

  • In the play area there is a lamp with a projection that will create the atmosphere of a fairy tale in the children's room.

  • In the study area there is a table lamp.

The decoration of a girl’s children’s room will be a garland with clothespins on which the child will hang photographs. A teenage girl will be delighted with a mirror with spotlights - it provides additional lighting, an assistant in applying makeup, and simply a stylish accessory.

When choosing lighting fixtures, you should give preference to practical models that are not difficult to clean from dust and dirt. It is also recommended to avoid lamps with an abundance of decorative elements - pretentious decor is inappropriate in children's rooms. But lamps stylized as cartoon characters or funny animals will fit well into the interior of a girl’s children’s room.

Color range

An important factor when decorating the interior and zoning a girl’s room is color. Since most girls' tastes change as they grow older, it is better to choose stylistically neutral pastel colors as the main background. In addition, an excess of acidic shades excites the nervous system, which has just begun to form. But curtains, lighting fixtures and accessories, which can be easily replaced over time, may well be bright.

Pink is traditionally considered the most “girly” color. To prevent the children's room from looking like Barbie's house, you can dilute this rich color with white, yellow or light green. Pink shades coexist perfectly with gray and beige colors - this palette helps to create an atmosphere of romance in the nursery.

Here are a few more color solutions that are comfortable and pleasing to the eye:

  1. Yellow and orange are a palette that lifts your spirits and stimulates creativity.

  2. Light green and beige are a universal tandem, calm, but not boring. It has a particularly beneficial effect on hyperactive girls, who can be difficult to put to bed or sit down for homework. In combination with dim lighting, the light green and beige color scheme creates a relaxing atmosphere in the children's room.

  3. Purple and white are a harmonious and positive color combination that is often found in modern interiors. In addition to white, purple harmonizes perfectly with green and orange - a girl will never get bored in such a colorful nursery.

  4. Lilac and gold. Using these flowers in a nursery is a great idea if you want to create a festive atmosphere for your daughter. Girls of primary school age especially love this color scheme - in a lilac-golden interior, the girl feels like a little princess. The beauty of a lilac-gold nursery is emphasized and complemented by curtains with a floral pattern.

A girl with a restrained character will certainly like a nursery decorated in a monochrome color scheme. One of the most delicate and romantic colors suitable for creating a monochrome nursery interior is turquoise. The turquoise color, which creates a feeling of coolness and freshness, looks especially good in children's rooms with plenty of sunlight.

Selection and arrangement of furniture in the nursery

Since girls are not as restless as boys, one of the main pieces of furniture in children's rooms for girls is the bed. To make your daughter feel comfortable and protected, you should please her with a crib in the shape of a house, and for an older girl, equip her with a canopy bed.

They are also good in children's beds with a soft headboard, on which you can sit comfortably and read a book before bed. A prerequisite is that children's furniture does not have sharp protrusions or sharp corners. The presence of linen drawers in a child's bed is especially welcome: the girl will be able to learn order by folding and putting away bedding after waking up. It is worth installing the bed away from the nursery window to protect your daughter from drafts and bright sun.

When selecting and arranging furniture in the nursery, you should adhere to other rules:

  • Transformable furniture that is easily folded and, if necessary, replaced with a new one, is excellent for children.

  • No need to try to fill the entire space of the nursery at once. As the girl grows up, she will need additional space for a wall bars, a dressing table, and new clothes.

  • If a child is interested in creativity, the interior of the nursery should be decorated with a round table. At such a table, a girl can do modeling, drawing, and also treat her friends with tea and sweets.

For the desk, which is usually placed near the nursery window, it is important to choose comfortable chairs with an orthopedic back and adjustable height. And it is advisable to fit compact upholstered furniture into the children’s interior: an armchair, a small sofa.

Organizing storage areas in the nursery

At the stage of designing a children's room for a girl, you will have to think about organizing places to store children's things, toys, and books. Bed linen and clothes can be stored in a closet located next to the changing table or baby's bed. Creativity kits, construction sets, and toys can be conveniently stored in a compact rack installed in the games sector. Hanging shelves also help to maintain order in children's rooms, the main thing is that the girl can reach them.

It is recommended to place children's stationery and study supplies in the drawers of the desk. Another useful device is a magnetic board. The child will draw on it, hang notes and various little things. There are also compact portable boards on sale that you can take with you, for example, to the dacha.

If space allows, it is worth equipping a small wardrobe in the nursery. Already from the age of 10-12, girls are interested in distributing and combining clothes on their own, which contributes to the formation of good taste and sense of style. But complex multifunctional storage systems in children's rooms are undesirable: even teenage girls find it difficult to cope with them.

In small children's rooms, the useful area can be expanded by using the second tier. On the second floor there will be a sleeping area, and the first tier is reserved for a desk and storage systems, open or closed. It’s even better if there is a niche in the nursery - an ideal place for things that the girl often uses. With an appropriate layout of the nursery, the space under the window sill will also bring a lot of benefits, in which boxes for children's toys and laundry baskets will fit.

Tips for safety measures in the nursery

When working on arranging a children's room for a girl in a modern style, it is important to pay attention to ensuring safety measures. There should be locks on the windows of children's rooms, locks on the cabinets, and soft protective covers on the corners of tables and chests of drawers, which are sold in hardware stores and marketplaces. It would not be superfluous to cover the windows of the children's room with polymer film, which protects the glass if it gets hit by a heavy toy or other object.

There are a few more nursery safety tips that are worth heeding:

  1. Shelves and tall pieces of furniture in the children's room must be securely attached to the walls. If your daughter wants to climb upstairs to get toys or other things, she will not knock over the furniture on herself.

  2. Frameless children's furniture fully meets safety requirements. For example, a hanging oval chair looks stylish and colorful in a children's room. The young owner of the nursery will enjoy reading books or simply relaxing and rocking in such a chair.

  3. If a first aid kit is stored in the nursery, the child should not have unhindered access to it. It is better to put medicines in a cabinet equipped with a locking lock.

  4. Heaters and other electrical appliances should be kept away from curtains, bedspreads and other textiles. After use, they must be unplugged and put away in some place in the nursery that is inaccessible to your daughter.

  5. Little girls may be interested in sockets. Installing plugs that can be removed with a special key will help prevent sad consequences.

  6. When arranging furniture in the nursery, it is advisable to leave wide enough passages for the girl to move freely. You will have to abandon the use of glass tabletops if you do not want to cover the entire surface with soft corners.

  7. Prickly, predatory and poisonous indoor plants have no place in a girl’s children’s room.

  8. It is better to install a closer on a heavy interior door in a nursery: it will close smoothly.

  9. When choosing storage systems for a nursery, it is advisable to give preference to low, open structures. It will be much easier for a girl to get an item from a rack than to examine the contents of a bulky closet. Wardrobes for children's rooms with a push-to-open system, which open easily if accidentally touched, are also not the best solution.

  10. It is advisable to lay a carpet on the floor of the children's room. The carpet creates an additional layer of thermal insulation, and the baby will not have to sit on the cold floor while playing. You can put a mat with a non-slip base made of microfiber or other hypoallergenic materials near the children's bed.

When purchasing children's toys, you need to pay attention to the composition: it should not contain harmful substances. You will also have to stop using small decorative elements in the nursery until the baby grows up. And, of course, it is important to maintain order in the children's room. To prevent my daughter from stepping on blocks or parts of prefabricated dollhouses, children's things are put away in drawers and baskets from time to time.
